My CCR Plan for Perfectly Imperfect
In the film opening, the main character Natalia will be revealed waking up after the camera reveals her messy room. Her laundry is piled up and her hair is messy. This will reveal her disorganized and chaotic lifestyle. She will realize she forgot about her best friend's birthday party that day. Also, her grandmother will complain her not doing chores and she will receive messages on her phone that she did not show for a date with her boyfriend. This will reveal her inconsistency in her loved ones' lives. I plan to edit the film in a way where the shots go from close up angles and long takes to wide angles and short, quick cuts. This displays how she is getting closer and closer to the party and her mindset is getting more scrambled as she is more and more late.
Class, age, and gender will be displayed, as she is a young teenage girl from a middle-class family who is expected to uphold certain standards from those around her. In the film she challenges these typical expectations by failing to be on time, get good grades, maintain her relationships, etc. Women typically portray a character with responsibility, integrity, and mindfulness in most movies. Perfectly Imperfect reverses this trope by making the main character, a female, act in a reckless and distrusting manner. This makes gender a big part in the main idea of the film. The audience will develop a better understanding of how gender stereotypes are not always true.
I think Searchlight Pictures would be the best company to produce my film, as it typically leans towards films that emphasize on character development and growth. They are also known for promoting many films with emotional depth and intimate lessons. Although these topics may be controversial to some, your company has a track record of making these types of films successful.
Since this film is independent and my partner and I are not well-knwn in the film industry, my goal is to start small and build up from there. I will do this by publicly releasing our film on Netflix for a few months to see how the media reacts, instead of streaming it in theaters. Soon after, I hope to release it on other platforms such as Prime Video, Roku, and Hulu.
My target audience will be young teenagers, as many can relate to this lifestyle and to raise awareness in a a way to motivate other young women to be more responsible and carefully make decisions.
I've become a better filmmaker by learning about different filming strategies through the projects over the course of my media studies class thus far. I've learned about tactics such as the 180-degree rule, an l-cut/j-cut, a match cut, over the shoulder shots, etc. I now know how to use mise-en-scene, editing, cinematography, and sound to display social groups or issues in films.
I will use my iPhone 16 Pro to film, along with my tripod. I will use Capcut to edit the film. I've learned about many features on the iPhone that can help when filming such as cinematic mode. I've also learned on Capcut to use noise reduction and how to edit sound from one scene into a different shot.
