About My Genre Project

So, my most recent project in class is about the different genres in film. Everybody got to pick their own genre or subgenre, and we picked historical dramas. It's pretty much just a drama film, but usually takes place years and years ago. Some classic examples of these movies are "Apollo 13," "Pride and Prejudice," and some of you may be shocked by this one but, "The Titanic."

Some other examples are:

The King
, which is is a 21st century adaptation, of William Shakespeare's 16th century Henriad fictional adaptations.

In this clip, Henry wins the Battle of Agincourt and is set to wed the French Princess, Catherine, their love blossoms into a mutual companionship of respect and kindness. However, Catherine's marriage was part of a plan to eventually place Henry V on the throne of France, and perhaps end what is now known as the Hundred Years' War.

12 Years a Slave
, directed by famous director Steve McQueen, who became the highest paid actor in the world in 1974. The movie strongly emphasizes the trauma of slavery during the early 1800s, and allows for today’s society to reflect.

In the clip, Solomon is a slave among two others, who had been enslaved longer than him, in which he is being told that he has to “survive.” However, he is not use to the lifestyle because he was born and raised a ‘free’ black man. He replies with "I don't want to survive, I want to live."

Oppenheimer, which is a historical drama based on an atomic bomb dropping in the United States years ago. It helps us understand a very important moment in history, as this bomb was the first nuclear bomb to hit in history.

The clip shows J. Robert Oppenheimer preparing for the Trinity test, the first detonation of a nuclear bomb, giving us a visual representation of the detonation. It gives off a sense of shock, showing us the reaction of the people who witnessed the event.

All of these examples portray a sense of emotions and create a personal relationship between the audience with the characters in the film. It can make you develop emotions for the characters more as the movie or show continues. These movies are based off a specific time period, and feature the main character facing a major conflict that impacts their life.
